Ki Gong with GrandMaster Shin
By: Aaron Miller, Cho Dan Bo Buckeye Tang Soo Do
At the Region 5 clinic, I had a chance to do Ki Gong with Grandmaster Shin again. It was after a long day Saturday at the Region 5 tournament, and then all morning Sunday at the clinic. My body was dehydrated and overall exhausted. To make it worse, I had eaten little that day, and the day before, so I was also pretty hungry.
We had started out doing some breathing exercises, to get rid of all the bad air, and bring in the good air. It is a simple exercise that gets you refreshed and ready to go. I have since incorporated it into warm-ups whenever I lead. I don’t often have the drive to practice Ki Gong on my one, although I’d like to, so usually the only chance I do any Ki Gong extensively is with Grandmaster Shin. This time I had noticed that I had felt more of my ki circulating around than the last time I did Ki Gong. I also felt a few other sensations that I hadn’t before. After we stood and shook our bodies for five minutes, my palms felt wet, but they weren’t sweating.
At the end of Ki Gong, we did guided meditation, where Grandmaster Shin had us imagine that we left the building, and drove home; then when we got home, we opened our refrigerator, took out a lemon, and cut it, and then we started licking the lemon. With my stomach so desperately wanting food, I don’t think I’ve ever wanted that lemon more than I did at that time. After he brought us back from licking lemons, I awoke from the meditation, and realized that they were bringing out our lunches in the back, and that I would get to eat after all.
After Ki Gong, I finally got to eat. Everybody from Buckeye met out in the lobby to eat our lunch, and we left for our long ride back home to Columbus. There not much like training for a day and a half on little food and even less sleep. Tang Soo Do events always teach me something more about what I’m made of.
